Each year dozens of top local and regional employers descend onto LMC’s Pittsburg campus for the Spring Internship and Job Fair, enticing students to join their company and take on high-demand, well-paying jobs.

“Los Medanos College has excellent contacts and industry partners who look to us each year, seeking the most well-prepared prospective employees,” said Bill Bankhead, LMC manager of Workforce and Economic Development. “Students who come to our job fairs have an edge over the competition. They make direct contact with employers who want to hire them, knowing our students have mastered the skills needed for the job. This past April we had about 50 employers participate in our career fair, and more than 250 students attended.”

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is among the major employers who participates in LMC’s Career Fair annually. The regional drinking water purveyor and wastewater utility has more than 400 job classifications from administrative and professional to technical and trades that could be the perfect fit for LMC graduates.

“LMC helps prepare its students and graduates to compete for a variety of EBMUD careers,” EBMUD spokesperson Andrea Pook said. “For example, graduates from LMC’s industrial mechanics and maintenance technology and welding technology programs – which are not offered by all postsecondary institutions – have developed skills to compete for EBMUD’s Machining & Maintenance Worker II and Welder positions.”

The Internship and Career Fair and fall semester Opportunity Fair are part of LMC’s comprehensive job readiness and employer engagement initiatives, which have contributed to successful careers. About 69% of LMC alumni from Career and Technical Education programs report they are employed in their field of study. About 82% of those report their wages increased by at least $11 per hour over their pre-college earnings.

“Our CTE programs are fueling local industry with skilled employees, while helping students and graduates advance into jobs that lift their family’s prospects and quality of life,” Bankhead said.
